Rough Translation:
Greetings everyone and mahalo for listening to the Nahenahe.net podcast #35. Today is Sunday, March 26, 2006.
I received and email form a listener asking for the name of the person playing the song that is heard at the beginning of each podcast, It’s been a while since I announced that. It is Keola Beamer’s “Shaka Slack Key” from his CD “Sweet Maui Moon.” Keola’s online store was closed about the time that his mother Aunty Nona Beamer entered the hospital several months ago, but it will open soon again. As soon as it is I will announce it.
I also received an email from a listener encouraging me to put the podcast out each week. Sorry friends, I am very busy and there simply aren’t enough hours in the day for me to do everything that I would like to. I will continue to try to stick to the current timeline (every two weeks).
The big event coming soon is Nā Hōkū Hanohano, which will be held on May 31 at the Coral Ballroom at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I have not received my ticket order form yet, so I will call Bonnie at the HARA office this week.
Since I’m talking about Nā Hōkū Hanohano, two weeks ago I played songs from CDs entered in the “Hawaiian Album of the Year”. This week I will play songs from the “Group of the Year” category.
There are 52 group and duo names entered in the Group of the Year category this year. I won’t say all of them, but here are some of the famous names in this category: Cecilio and Kapono for “Lifetime Party Vol 2, ʻEkolu, for ʻEkolu Music, Hālau o Kekhi for Puka Kameʻehu, Holunape for He ʻOlu, Nā Leo, for Feel the Spirit, Nā Pali, for Nā Pali, and Suggah Daddy, for Suffereignty. I will play some songs form some of these CDs in this podcast
I will begin by playing this song from the CD Suffereignty by SugahDaddy, a song entitled “Pali Uli”
Play “Pali Uli”
I helped SugahDaddy folks by writing a Hawaiian language version of this song, and it also appears on the CD. The work was interesting, we did not physically meet until well after the CD was released; all of the collaboration was done by email
At this time I will play a song from the new CD by Nā Pali, which is entered in the Group of the Year category as well. This is “Inu I Ka Wai ʻAwa’awa”, written by Carlos Andrade and performed by Carlos, Pancho Graham, Pat Cockett and Fred Lunt.
Play “Inu I Ka Wai ʻAwa’awa”
This song has an important message. Nā Pali don’t freqently release new CDs, so they are appreciated when they are released
At this time, I will play the song “Kiss Me” by Nā Leo. This is a contemporary CD and they were assisted by the world famous producer Keith Olsen”
Play “Kiss Me”
This song was composed by Nālani Choy and Bryan Kessler
We are quickly approaching the end of this podcast, and I will close by playing a song from the CD of Holunape. I played a song of theirs form this CD two weeks ago since they are also entered in the “Hawaiian Album of the Year” category. Because of this and because of the CD is so good, I will play another song this week So , from the CD “He ʻOlu, here is “Hilo Hula” as sung by Holunape
Play “Hilo Hula”
So my friends, I have a pile of work staring at me, so the time has arrived to finish this podcast. So until we meet again next week, take care.
