Podcast #39 Translation

Podcast #39, 05/07/06, rough translation:

Greetings everyone and mahalo for listening to the Nahenahe.net podcast #39. Today is Sunday, May 28, 2006. Today is the biggest and most important week for the Hawai’i music industry because the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards will be help tomorrow evening. For those of you who will not be attending, the program will be broadcast on K5. The network at my office is not functioning right now, so I cannot confirm the time that the program will begin, but I believe the broadcast will begin at 7 PM. I will confirm this and announce it on Nahenahe.net when the network comes back on in my office.

I’d like to congratulate Eric Gilliom and Willie K, AKA, Barefoot Natives, on the release of their new CD last week; I have my own copy and it is excellent. I will play another new song from the release in this podcast. Don’t forget, the Barefoot Bash which will be held on June 11 at the Lahaina Civic Auditorium on Maui. Henry Kapono, the Mākaha Sons, Hapa and Gypsy Pacific will also perform. Tickets are $30.

Here is the good news, I have a copy of this CD to give away in the podcast. Continue to listen, and if you can answer two questions, you can win a copy of this CD. Before I ask these questions, let’s listen to a new song from this CD by the Barefoot Natives, a song composed by Willie K that is entitled “Indigenous Nations”.

There are some very strong and important thoughts in this song, thanks to Willie and Eric, as well as Brian Kohne for allowing me to play this song in my podcast. Now it is time for me to ask you all these two questions. If you can answer both of them correctly, you can win this CD. Listen closely as I will ask the questions only once.

[ I am not including the questions in the translation, you must listen to the podcast to win. If you don't understand Hawaiian, find help ;-) ]

Send your answers to keola@nahenahe.net

At this time I’m going to talk about a CD that is going to be released in June or July. This CD honors Hōkūle‘a, and the thirty years that it has been sailing across the Pacific. The CD is entitled “Hōkūle‘a- The Legacy”. This is a fundraising project for the Polynesian Voyaging Society and it’s important work in teaching this traditional knowledge to the new generations of Hawai’i. Let’s listen to this new song from “Hōkūle’a – The Legacy”, “Hawai’inuiākea” is the name of this songs, and it was written by Kanalu Young and Kenneth Makuakāne.

I really like that electric guitar playing. Kenneth told me the name of the electric guitarist, but I forget his name. Mahalo to Kenneth Makuakāne for allowing me to include that song in the podcast. I will ask to play another song from it when the CD is released.

So, my friends, that’s all I have this week. Until we meet again next week, take care.
