Podcast #043 7/23/06, rough translation:
Greetings everyone, this is Keola and mahalo for listening to the Nahenahe.net podcast #43. Today is Sunday, July 23, 2006. I’m not feeling well today, and had the flu all week, so this podcast will probably be a bit short. I do however have some news that I want to share with you, and some music from the Hawai’i Volcano Arts and Cultural Festival.
Before playing those songs, I would like to announce “Kukahi 2006″ will be held at the Blaisdell Center in Honolulu this year at 8 p.m. Sept. 23 and 24. Tickets are on sale now at the Blaisdell box office and at Ticketmaster locations. Kūkahi will return to Maui in 2007 on Feb. 9 and 10, at Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theatre. Browse your way to Keali’i's site for more details. His website also shows that he will be releasing a new CD in November. I have heard that it will be a Christmas CD, however, I don’t know for sure.
Last weekend I was very happy to accompany Kenneth Makuakane at the Volcano Arts and Cultural Festival held in Ka’ū. My daughter recorded the performance, and Kenneth graciously allowed me to include some songs from the performance in this podcast. He is very close to finishing his new CD, and we actually performed one of the songs from it at this festival. However, I will not be playing that songs in the podcast today, you’ll have to wait until the CD is released. Here is Kenneth singing “Haole Hula” by R. Alex Anderson.

Thanks again Kenneth for allowing me to include this music. I will play another song from this performance at the end of the podcast.
I have featured the music of Steven Espaniola in these Nahenahe.net podcasts. Steven will be performing his music in Hawai’i. on August 27 he will perform at the Borders in Kailua Kona at 2PM, on August 30 at theKona Brewing Company, Koko Marina Center, Honolulu, 7PM, on Sept 1 at Borders, Ward Centre, Honolulu, HI 8PM, and on September 3 at Borders Pearlridge at 2PM. I will try to see him at the Kailua-Kona performance. Since I’m talking about Steven right now, I will play a song from his first CD, Hoʻomaka, a traditional song by Alfred Unauna ʻAlohikea entitled “Pua Lilia”

Mahalo to you all for putting up with my rough voice today. I will close today’s podcast by playing one more song from Kenneth Makuakāne’s performance at the Volcano Arts and Cultural Festival. This famous song of his was first recorded by Nā Leo Pilimehana, and was chosen song of the year at the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards several years ago. Here he is singing his composition, “I Miss You My Hawai’i”, as well as explaining its origins.

That’s all I have for you this week, my friends. Until we meet again next week, take care.
