Podcast #050 11/19/06, rough translation:Greetings everyone, this is Keola and mahalo for listening to the Nahenahe.net podcast #50. Today is Sunday, November 19, 2006. This is going to be a long podcast, I have plenty of new and plenty of music to play for you. I also interviewed Brittni Paiva and her mother LeAnn this weekend, but will save the interview for next weekend’s podcast. I will, however, play music from her new CD “Brittni” in this podcast.
There is plenty of new Christmas music this year. I played a song from Keali‘i Reichel’s new Christmas CD, Malia, last week. This week, I will be playing new Christmas music from thei Brothers Cazimero’s new CD, “Caz” Christmas, as well as a song from Ululoa’s Christmas CD “Halelū”. Matt Cutingub’s new CD “Return To Romance” is not a Christmas release, however, it is excellent and I will play a song from it as well this week.
I just heard about Keola Beamer’s new CD which will be released in January. It’s title is “Ka Hikina O Ka Hau”, and it features Keola’s playing classical music by famous classical composers such as Ravel, Stravinsky and Mendelssohn. I have not heard it yet, but am very excited about the release. I will be playing music from the CD when it is released.
The Brothers Cazimero have released Christmas records and CDs before, but it was a long time ago that they released their last Christmas CD. I was very happy to receive a copy of their latest, “Caz Christmas”.
Included on the CD are “Jingle Bell Rock,” “A Christmas Love Song” and “The Merriest Hawaiian Christmas”. You all probably know how much I love new songs so right now I am going to play “Go To The Light”, a new composition by Robert Cazimero from the Brothers Cazimeros’ new CD, “Caz Christmas”.

That is such an incredible voice, isn’t. Before I play another new song for you, I have an announcement. Kenneth Makuakāne will be very busy in the coming month, performing on Hawai‘i island, O‘ahu and Maui in support of his CD release, Makuakāne. He will play at the Mission House Museum Christmas Craft Fair this Saturday at 9AM and on Sunday at 3PM. He will be the featured performer at Ho‘okani Mānoa at the Manoa Gardens on Friday, December 1 at 7PM. On Saturday, December 2 at 2PM he will perform at Borders in Hilo,, and on Sunday, December 3, 2PM at Borders in Kona. He is really busy, isn’t he? He has other performances on O‘ahu in December, and I will announce them in my next podcast. Please check his website at www.makuakane.com for more details.
The Matt Cutingub Orchestra of Hawai‘i released its first CD “Return to Romance” about 2 months ago, and it is certainly a CD for lovers. Matt is the leader of the Hawai‘i Pops Symphony as well, and he is the one who arranged the violins and other stringed instruments on Keali‘i Reichel’s new Christmas CD, Maluhia. There are many famous singers performing on the CD as well, including The Brothers Cazimero, Keali’i Reichel, Patti Austin, Jimmy Borges, Dave Koz, Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom, Na Leo Pilimehana and Toni Tennille. The CD is truly amazing. Here is the Matt Cutingub Orchestra of Hawai’i with their performance of “A Peaceful Night In Hawai‘i.

do you recognize the person who is singing that song? Think about it. Believe it or not, it is Raiatea Helm. Congratulations to Matt and all of the people who worked on producing this CD. Mahalo to Matt and Leah at Mountain Apple Company for allowing me to include this wonderful music in my podcast. It would make a great gift for anyone on your christmas list!
Ululoa Productions is famous for recording the songs of Maui performers. They have just released their first Christmas CD featuring mostly Maui artists but also some from Hawai‘i island. This release features the wonderful singing and playing of Cody Pueo Pata, Ata Damasco, Lei`ohu Ryder, Kaiolohia Funes Smith, the Hula Honeys, Gypsy Pacific, Bulla Ka`iliwai, and Leimana Abenes. Maui’s own Ahumanu makes its debut with E Halelū, and this is the song which I will feature in this podcast.

Let us all give thanks and praise in the upcoming holiday season, and at all times. Mahalo to Jake and Laurie at Ululoa for allowing me to include music from this special CD.
I would like to congratulate Billy V. on his new website template and his return to active duty! His website looks great, so please visit him at www.hawaiian-music.net.
Another CD just released is Ka Pua Hae Hawai’i by Nā Palapalai. It is also beautiful, but I cannot play a song from it yet as I am awaiting the permission of Nā Palapalai folks. As soon as they give their permission I will include it in a podcast.
Another CD that was released a few months ago was Amy Hānaiali‘i Gillom’s “Generation Hawai‘i”. I tried very hard to interview Amy for this podcast, however I was unable to do so, so asked permission to simply play the music. It wasn’t her fault – I was unable to schedule the time for us to talk on the phone, but I hope to do so at a later date. The name of the composer of this song is unknown, it is entitled “Mauna‘olu”.
Mahalo Amy for allowing me to play this beautify song, and forgive me for not being able to interview you for this project, let’s try again later. Merry Christmas to you and the family living on Kaua‘i.
Brittni Paiva has just released her new CD, entitled Brittni. I interviewed her this weekend and we talked about her career in the recording industry and the new release.
[ interview not translated ]
I also interviewed Brittni’s mother LeAnn about what it is like to raise such a gifted child and to guide her in this industry, and I will include that interview in a future podcast.
So my friends, that is all I have for you this week. Until we meet again next week, take care.
