HISTORY
The birth of the Flying Solo Music record label began on January 22, 1997. After having previously recorded his debut album Finding My Way under another label, BB Shawn felt it was time to spread his wings with the knowledge he acquired and move on. Flying Solo Music seemed to be the appropriate name for his newest adventure. This was all done with the label's blessings.
Flying Solo Music's first project was BB's Live And Kicking' CD. Originally this CD was not supposed to be released in the stores. It's purpose was to be a "mahalo" album for the audiences that faithfully followed BB's performances and only sold at shows, concerts, etc. The songs on this album comprised of a selected number of most requested songs from his audiences during the first year of performing. It was recorded completely live so what you will hear on this CD is exactly what the audience heard that night of live recording. Since it quickly became in high demand, we decided to release it to stores on Aprill 22nd, 1997.
Having the first CD under our belt, we now felt ready to take on the job of recording a studio project, No Boundaries, (released April 7th, 1998). We're extremely proud of this particular project. Even more enlightening was the discovery of how much fun it was to do. With a great technician and the few musicians that were called in (BB provided most of the musical/vocal work) this project proved to be exhilarating to the point of hating to see it end so quickly.
Flying Solo Music has since moved on to help a fellow musician finish and release his project. Bobby Ingano, who had joined BB's band in mid-1998, had requested our help and we were more than happy to provide him for it. The original master that we received was in need of more songs to fill an adequate running time. We suggested that he go in and record five more songs of his choosing. He asked BB to collaborate with him, and they recorded in record speed. Bobby's debut album, Steel Reflections, released on Nov. 17th, 1998, is a long awaited album by many not only in the industry, but by admirers around the world.
GOAL
Flying Solo Music's goal can also be considered our philosophy in this business. We feel that every musician should have the freedom to record what they desire. After all, it is their record and they need to be happy with the results. Recording, for the artist, should be an enjoyable experience with little or no stress attached to it. Another important philosophy of ours is that it is the artist that should collect the majority of the income from sales. No longer being naive, we realize that expenses need to be covered, investments returned, but that's the beauty of our label...low overhead, and the good business sense to keep costs reasonable. We truly believe that it is the artist and their talent that deserves the rewards...we're just here to help them receive it.
It's a pleasure to watch artists share their talent with honest joy....it's a great feeling to know that we can give them back some of that happiness that they've unselfishly have given and continue to give to others.
