Are you ready Hawai'i? E ho'omakaukau e ka po'e Hawaii! Because what you are about to hear is some of the most nahenahe (sweet) Hawaiian Slack Key music of our time by Ikaika Brown. A couple of years ago I had to pleasure of meeting Ikaika. It was after a slack key jam session at the Bailey House Museum that Kevin Brown invited me over to their home to meet the family and share some of my ki ho'alu. His youngest son Ikaika played a slack key selection for me and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Here was a 10 year old playing "ono" sophisticated ki ho'alu with such ease that it touched my heart in a whay only some would understand. This was the first of many more jam sessions to come. As I got to know Ikaika, I found a gifted and humble young person who shares his music with aloha! I can see where he gets this from. He is surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends. I know that it is through their spiritual guidance that this talendted young individual will succeed. So I ask you to open your heart and soul to the music of Ikaika. He follows a long line of accomplished musicians (i.e., the Wai'ehu Sons) and is sure to make them proud. He has the promise of taking his music far into the future. At one time ki ho'alu was a dying art, but I say "What was thought to be lost, is now being learned." I mus ki ho'alu. I mua Ikaika!
