KEKUHI

Kekuhi, the newest release by Kekuhi Kanahele, is an extraordinary collaborative effort between Kekuhi and her husband, Kaipo Frias. The songs speak of the many facets of their life together on the Big Island. They give the listener a glimpse into the special relationship they have with each other, the islands and the history of Hawai'i.

The inspiration behind the original compositions on Kekuhi come from everywhere. The songs have evolved from their beginnings in the hallway of a building, from kitchen tables, from a washerette, from Big Island locations; the melodies and lyrics woven together to form the music you hear on Kekuhi.

Her style of singing, unique and versatile, is what finally completes the soul of these mele. Her vast experience as a singer, composer, teacher, dancer and cultural expert allows each song to take on an individual life of its own, entitling the listener to become a part of a moment, an emotion, a feeling.
