Aloha. I'm setting up RedHat Linux on a few machines, and want to document here on the web so I can find it easily no matter where I am, and so that perhaps it will help others. So here goes...
Compaq Deskpro 4000 links. I picked up a Deskpro real cheap for home. These are some links to things that may help others who have this as well and want to install RedHat on them.
BILUG is the Big Island Linux Users Group. A great bunch of people that have helped me out tremendously. The group generally meets on the third Saturday of each month.
So far I've only used RedHat Linux. No complaints yet.
I'm running a few cool server packages...
I'm running the QuickTime Streaming Server on a RH7.1 box at my office. Will point to it when I have something worth showing. It installed flawlessly without an RPM, just with an install script that was provided.
Netatalk lets you share your Linux drive as an AppleShare volume. It's available as an RPM, installed and runs flawlessly for me at the office and at home.
gShield is a cool iptables firewall for use with the 2.4.x Linux kernel. I used it to quickly and easily set up a fireweall for my RedHat 7.1 box at home, and also allows me to share a modem with the various computers in the house. That project is still in progress. I have the Linux box connecting to my ISP on boot, and I can connect to it from the other computers in the house, but cannot go straight out to the net from those machines. Still working on it.
