I've always felt that Hawaiian entertainers have long taken for granted. Whenever there is a benefit event, birthday party, political fundraiser, whatever, people call whatever musicians they know and ask them to play - usually for free.
I should know. Because of my affiliation to the Hawaiian language immersion schools, I've frequenly been asked to contact musician friends for help with our benefit concerts. I started NahenaheNet as a way to thank these friends, and in some small way repay them for their kindness and support of our Hawaiian immersion schools. It started our small, and has grown tremendously.
