Aloha mai!

Lots of Hawaiian music concerts coming up all over the place -- Honolulu, Maui, Moloka'i, California, Oregon, and even Las Vegas! I have new concert info for Keali'i Reichel, one of Hawaiian music's newest stars, as well as info on some of Hawai`i longest-running stars, the Brothers Cazimero. Las Vegas is in for a treat as two of Hawaii's most heavely voices, O'Brien Eselu and Fiji, join forces, and Willie and Amy make appeareances in Hawai`i and on the Mainland. The summer concert season is starting to heat up, so check it out -- there may be something wonderful coming to a place near you!

The Seventh Annual Aloha Concert Jam date and lineup has been announced: see details and website info below under June 27th.

BB Shawn always brings a smile to my face -- the kid is so talented, and I'm lucky enough to have an advance copy of his latest CD, No Boundaries. As the street date for release is April 7, I won't review it now, but I will preview a clip from a really rocking number, Youngblood (In RealAudio format). Click here for some BB!

IThe group Pure Heart whose debut CD I previewed last time (hope you were able to play the sound clip!) has been doing very well --five weeks so far at the number one slot on KCCN-FM's Top Ten CD list!

Recordings

Raymond Kane Band, Hawaiian Sunset Music, volume I (Hula Records CDHS 604). Ah, Ray is at the top of his form with this calm, tranquil CD, whose complex but soothing ki ho'alu is so gracious and gentle. Ray combines classic Hawaiian tunes such as "Moana Chimes" and "Hu'i E" with the charming, waltz-time "The Sidewalks of New York" and the sprightly "Ka Punahou," which adds a little zest to the otherwise calm texture of the CD. Other songs include "Ahi Wela," "La Paloma," and "Papakolea." A true gem of real Hawaiian music.
