Aloha mai!

Another great Dancing Cat recording by Hawaiian music great, Keola Beamer! BTW, many Hawaiian musicians have webpages, of course -- you can get a complete list back on www.nahenahe.net -- but few if any have as much material on them as Keola's site, which can be found on http://www.kbeamer.com. Want info on Hawaiian music? Want info on slack key tablature? Want hilarious Hawaiian translations? Want spam haiku? Check it out!

I recently received info from a radio station in Las Vegas that plays Hawaiian music, and is supposed to also be available on the net. Check it out at KLAV 1230AM on Monday nights at 9. It's called Aloha2go.com and the entire show is also archived and accessable via Realaudio G2 Technology on http://www.aloha2go.com. The show is also supposed to have info for transplanted Hawaiians in the area.

Steel guitar fans, get yourselves to Honolulu on May 2! The Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association will present their eighth annual concert and jam. Details below!

Last, I received quite a bit of email from the Canadian contingent about info on the Keali'i Reichel concert this July. A contact email address appears below in the calendar.

Recordings

Kolonahe cover graphicKeola Beamer, Kolonahe: from the gentle wind (Dancing Cat Records 08022-38047-2) Keola's trademark "dream guitar" instrumentals are back. From the very first notes of "Ku'u Lei 'Awapuhi," the gentle, almost new-age tone of Keola's music will embrace you. He puts his own gentle lilt into one of the most poignant of Hawaiian songs, "Maui Waltz," yet gets an almost chant-like tone on "Pele Trilogy." His instrumentals are uniformly delightful, performed with effortless precision and charm. Here is a sample of one of the haunting numbers from the CD, Kauhale O Kamapua'a.
Other songs include: "Shaka Slack Key," "Blue Water Dolphin," "Ipo Lei Manu/He'eia," "He Aloha Mele," "Honolulu City Lights," and "The Beauty of Mauna Kea."

See you in early May - a hui hou!
