Aloha mai!The big news here in Honolulu is that KCCN has finally started releasing names of the guests that will appear at their Birthday Bash. So far (and KCCN specializes in listing last-minute guests the week before the show!), it's Na Leo Pilimehana, Amy and Willie, Kapena, Sean Na'auao and the Poi Pounders, Pure Heart, Sudden Rush, and Fiji. (What, so everyone's gonna have twenty minutes, tops?)
This page is updated twice a month -- come back in early August for more concert and CD news!
Recordings
Norman Ka'awa Solomon, I Like Go Back (Icon Recordings 90474-12662) This is a nicely produced CD -- very good instrumentals, ranging from Hawaiian guitar to sax solos, with confident vocals, singing the usual range of Hawaiian, contemporary, and oldies songs. Songs include: Hula Girl, Aloha Au ia 'Oe, Banana (obligatory reggae number), the oldy "I'll Still Be Loving You," the Beatles "I Will," and the title track. Pleasant but unremarkable.
Ho'onu'a, Feel Good Island Music (Island Style Records ISRCD 1115). This is a very contemporary CD, a bouncy, semi-reggae kind of a sound. It's fun but light-weight ... which may be what you want in your summer music. The cover graphic looked like someone really enjoys Photoshop. Songs, many of which appear to be original, include "Koa Tree," "Island Style Cruisin'," "Why Did I?," and "Surf Session."
