Early-August
(© 1998 Susan Jaworowski)

Aloha mai!

This month is gonna be short 'n' sweet for me -- due to work and family constraints, I may not be able to get out a mid-August page. However, even if I'm not able to do mid-August (and hey, music fans, I've been steady twice-a-month for almost three years now!), I'll be back with your Early September page in, well, early September. [g]

Ke Kani O Ke Kai is back! This concert series at the Waikiki Aquarium has been a highlight of the summer for the past few years. Check out the three listings below to hear The Brothers Cazimero, Na Leo Pilimehana, and Amy and Willie K in this very special venue!

News for Na Leo Pilimehana fans: Na Leo Pilimehana has set up their own domain, www.na-leo.com, and are selling their recordings online and taking care of the website themselves. Check out the latest on one of the hottest Hawaiian music groups around!

I get email every month asking me where people can get Hawaiian music -- either the new CDs I preview for you, or the golden oldies they remember from their youth. I can recommend Auntie Maria's The Hawaiian Music Island, because I've ordered from her for Mainland relatives, and got prompt service at a good price. I don't get any kickback from her for making this recommendation. [g] For the same reason, I don't recommend other sources of Hawaiian music, because I haven't had cause to use them (well, after all, I *do* live in Hawai'i: I can get all the music I usually need right here!). This is not a slur or a slam on these other sources; I'm just saying that I don't have any first-hand knowledge of them.

The Hawaiian Music Island just became an even *better* deal with its frequent buyer program the Mele Club. for every 10 CDs purchased, you choose one for free. No tax, shipping, or handling fees. Check out the site to see how it can work for you.
The Hawaiian Music Island can be reached at:
http://www.mele.com

And speaking of websites, I just made arrangements for those of you who haven't bookmarked this page to find me sooo easily! Simply type in
www.listen.to/Hawaiian.music.
No, I haven't left nahenahe.net; I'm very happy here. This new URL is a site-forwarding service that will bounce you to this web site. This may be particularly useful for those of you who receive my page through Ryan Ozawa's News List and who only visit the site when I have sound clips on. It's a lot simpler than memorizing the whole URL!

Hawaiian language lovers from all over the globe will want to tune in to "Alana I Kai Hikina "an all-Hawaiian language radio program airing on the internet Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. DJ Makela Bruno plays Hawaiian music, takes requests, and has features of interest to the Hawaiian language community. The show is broadcast over the Internet using Real Audio. Information about the show and how to listen to it will be available at the homepage of Alana i Kai Hikina at:

http://www.olelo.hawaii.edu/OP/alana/

Check it out! You can email requests in advance to Makela. Try to get them to her by Friday to get them played on Sunday's show.

[groan] I lost my file with my CD previews on it! Rather than hold up this page any longer. I'm going to post it and postpone my previews unytil next time (there were only two anyway....). E kala mai!
