Aloha mai!Sorry for the lack of an early November page this year -- I try not to let my real life (tm) get in the way of my 'net life too much, but I recently moved (my first night in my new place was last night!), and the lead up to that has just been incredibly time-consuming. I'm living out of boxes and have been using shampoo to clean my dishes, but at least I'm all moved now! I've received some queries on the page (the computer was the first thing assembled in my new home!), so I thought I'd power it out.
And now, on to the goodies!
I talked about Auntie Genoa Keawe's 80the birthday bash in my last page -- whoo-wie, what an event! Almost everyone who is anyone in Hawaiian music was there, plus Auntie's family and a myriad of friends and fans. Those of you who were there will know exactly how great a party it was, and those who weren't will just have to wait until Auntie's 90th!
I have lots of concert info and some great CDs this time around! (I had move CD info, but lost it in the move. Oh well, more for next time!) Put some Hawaiian music concert tickets on your wish list, and then go treat yourself and a friend! [g]
Recordings
Na Leo Pilimehana, Christmas Gift The ladies of Na Leo lend their hallmark harmonies to a Christmas CD that blends the old with the new. Jingle Bell Rock, O Holy Night, and Kana Kaloka/Here Comes Santa Claus add familiar touches to originals such as Hosana (Ua Mau), now getting plenty of island airplay. Na Leo fans will want a copy! They are selling other CDs from their site (http://www.na-leo.com/) but so far Christmas Gift is not listed as one of them. Chek the page for more sound clips, though!
Bobby Ingano, Steel Reflections (Flying Solo Music) Wow! Mild-mannered, indispendble steel-player around town Bobby Ingano does himself proud in his first solo release. Backed by Bill Kaiwa and BB Shawn, Bobby's CD is simply joyful. His multi-faceted talent shines through, in classic steel songs in classic steel arrangements, to more modern treatments. On a personal level, I listened to this a lot as I was packing and preparing for the move, and Bobby's CD made it a relaxing experience. Highly recommended. I've included a sound clip of Dreamy Lagoon, and you can find more on Bobby's home page (you can also order the CD right from his home page - http://www.nahenahe.net/bobby/order.html).
